A particle of mass m(1) collides head on...

A particle of mass `m_(1)` collides head on with a stationary particles of mass `m_(2)`. If `(m_(1))/(m_(2))` gte, where e is the coefficient of restitution, then :

A

`m_(1)` will retrun back

B

`m_(1)` will move in same direction

C

`m_(1)` will stop

D

unpredictable

Text Solution

The correct Answer is:
2

`m_(1)V=m_(1)V_(1)+m_(2)V_(2).......(1)`
and `V_(2)-V_(1)=eV....(2)`
On solving `V_(1)=(V(m_(1)-em_(2)))/((m_(1)+m_(2)))`
Given `(m_(1))/(m_(2)) gt e`
So, `V_(1)` is positive and thus, `m_(1)` will move in same direction.
