A force F is applied to a uniform, thin rod of mass 4 kg and length l=50cm. The rod translates in x-direction without any rotation along a smooth, horizontal surface as shown. If F= 60N, the angle `theta` for translation of rod in the given orientation comes to be `theta = tan^(-1) (2/x)`. Find x.

The correct Answer is:
3

N=mg
`tau_(cm)=0`
`Fxxl/2 sin theta=Nxxl/2 cos theta`
`tan theta=N/F =(mg)/F =40 /60 =2/3`
