Verify commutativity of addition of rati...

Verify commutativity of addition of rational numbers for each of the following pairs of rational number :
(i) `4` and `(-3)/5`
(ii)`-4` and `4/(-7)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) `4` and `(-3)/5`
`=>4/1+(-3/5)=-3/5+4/1`
Taking `5` as LCM
`=>(4xx5-3xx1)/(5)=(-3xx1+4xx5)/(5)`
`=>(20-3)/(5)=(-3+20)/(5)`
`=>17/5=17/5`
(ii)`-4\ a n d4/(-7)`
`=>-4/1+(-4/7)=-4/7-4/1`
Taking `7` as LCM
`=>(-4xx7-4xx1)/(7)=(-4xx1-4xx7)/(7)`
`=>(-28-4)/(7)=(-4-28)/(7)`
`=>-32/4=-32/4`
`=>-8=-8`
Hence Verified.
