A glass cylinder with diameter 20 cm has water to a height of 9 cm. A metal cube of 8 cm edge is immersed in it completely. Calculate the height by which water will rise in the cylinder. `(T a k e\ \ pi=3. 142)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Diameter of the cylinder`=20 cm`
Height of the water in the cylinder`=9 cm`
Radius of the cylinder`=20/2=10 cm`
Cube of edge`=8cm`
The height by which water will rise in the cylinder be `h`
Volume of water displaced`=`Volume of the cube
`pir^2h=8^3`
`(22/7)xx10^2xxh=8xx8xx8`
`(22/7)xx10^2xxh= 512`
`h=(512xx7)/(22xx100)`
` h=1.629 cm`
`therefore h=1.629 cm`
