An ice floe is floating in the sea. The part which is above the water is a prism of height `0.5 m`. A `200 kg` seal climbs onto the floe, which sinks `5cm` deeper into the water. How many seals, which have the same mass, can the floe hold without sinking totally into the water ?

A

`10`

B

`20`

C

`30`

D

`40`

Prism has constant area of cross-section and its volume is area of base times height.
`((5)/(100))xxAg=200g`
`(0.5)Ag=n(200)g`
(`n=` number of seals to completely submerge the prism)

A piece of ice floats in a vessel with water above which a layer of a lighter oil is poured. How will the level of the interface change after the whole of ice melts? What will be the change in the total level of liquid in the vessel?

There are two cylinder shaped wooden billets, each having a mass of mass 45kg , in a vertical wall sewage, which contains water in it. the two billets have the same size and the same material, they touch each other and the walls of the sewage. One of them is totally under the water, whilst only half of the other one is immersed into the water. Friction is negligible everywhere. (density of water is 1000kg//m^(3) and g=10m//s^(2) ). Two particles are simultaneously thrown in horizontal direction from two points on a riverbank, which are at certain height above the water surface. The initial velocities of the particles are v_1= 5m//s and v_2 = 7.5 m//s respectively. Both particles fall into the water at the same time. First particles enters the water at a point s = 10 m from the bank. Determine (a) the time of flight of the two particles, (b) the height from which they are thrown, (c) the point where the second particle falls in water.

A container contains water up to a height of 20 cm and there is a point source at the centre of the bottom of the container. A rubber ring of radius r floats centrally on the water. The ceiling of the room is 2.0 m above the water surface. (a) Find the radius of the shadow of the ring formed on the ceiling if r = 15 cm. (b) Find the maximum value of r for which the shadow of the ring is formed on the ceiling. Refractive index of water =4/3.

A cubical block of ice floating in water has to suport metal piece weighing 0.5 kg. What can be the minimum edge of the block so that it does not sink in water/ specific gravity of ice=0.9.
