A driver applies the brakes on seeing traffic signal 400m ahead. At the time of applying of brakes vehicle was moving with speed `15 m//s`. The brakes provide uniform deceleration of `0.3m//s^(2)`. The displacement of the vehicle in 1min duration after the driver sees the signal is :

A

`25m`

B

`375m`

C

`360m`

D

`40m`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The maximum distance covered by the vehicle before coming to rest `=(v^(2))/(2a)=((15)^(2))/(2(0.3))=375m`
The corresponding time `(t)=(v)/(a)=(15)/(0.3)=50s`. Therefore after `50 seconds`, the distance covered by the vehicle `=375m` from the instant of application of the brakes.
`rArr` The distance of the vehicle from the traffic light after one minute `=(400-375)m=25m`

A driver takes 0.20 s to apply the brakes after he sees a need for it. This is called the reaction time of the driver. If he ils driving a car at a speed of 54 km/h and the brakes cause a deceleration of 6.0 m/s^2 , find the distance travelled by the car after he sees the need to put the brakes on.

On seeing red light ahead, a driver takes 0.3 s to apply the brakes. This is called the reaction time of the driver. If he was initially driving at a speed of 36km/hr and application of the brakes causes a deceleration of 4.0m//s^(2) . Calculate the distance travelled by the car after he sees the red light.

A driver of car takes -20 s (which is the reaction time of dricer ) to apply the brkes after he sees an obstruction at a distance of 25 m from him . If he is driving car at a speed of 54 km h^(-1) and the brakes cause a deceleration of 6.0 km h^(-2), predict whether he will avert collistion or not.
