Thallophytes, i.e., algae and fungi completely lack the formation of embryo . In bryophytes, the zygote, on gemination, does not produce the gametophyte plant it undergoes segmentation to form an embryo. The embryo (diploid) by further segmentation and differentation gives rise to sporophyte. The sporophyll obtains its nourishment directly from the parent gaemtopyhyte to which it is organically attached.
