The sporagonium (capsule) of Riccia is the simplest among the liverworts. It lacks both the foot and the seta. Therer are no elater. Unlike other liverworts the embryo. Sporogonium and spore mother cells in Riccia develop non chloroplats. Thus no photosynthesis occurs there. the sporophyte remains totally dependent upon the gametophytic thallus.
