A ship made of iron can float in water but an iron needle sinks. Why ?

The weight of the displaced water by the immersed part of the ship balances the weight of the ship and as a result, the ship floats on water. On lthe other hand, the weight of the displaced water by the needle is less than the weight to the needle and consequently it sinks.
