A fixed thermally conducting cylinder has a radius R and height `L_0`. The cylinder is open at its bottom and has a small hole at its top. A piston of mass M is held at a distance L from the top surface, as shown in the figure. The atmospheric pressure is `P_0`.

The piston is taken completely out of the cylinder. The hole at the top is sealed. A water tank is brought below the cylinder and put in a position so that the water surface in the tank is at the same level as the top of the cylinder as shown in the figure. The density of the water is `rho`. In equilibrium, the height H of the water coulmn in the cylinder satisfies

A

`rhog(L_(0) - H)^(2) + P_(0) (L_(0) - H) + L_(0)P_(0) = 0`

B

`rhog(L_(0) - H)^(2) - P_(0) (L_(0) - H) - L_(0)P_(0) = 0`

C

`rhog(L_(0) - H)^(2) + P_(0) (L_(0) - H) - L_(0)P_(0) = 0`

D

`rhog(L_(0) - H)^(2) - P_(0) (L_(0) - H) + L_(0)P_(0) = 0`

The correct Answer is:
C

Pressure in air inside cylinder `=` Pressure at point `A = P_(0) + (L_(0) - H)rhog`
`PV =` constant in the air inside the cylinder
`:. P_(0)L_(0) = [P_(0) + (L_(0) - H)rhog](L_(0) - H)`
`P_(0) (L_(0) - H) + rhog(L_(0) - H)^(2) - P_(0)L_(0) = 0`

A fixed thermally conducting cylinder has a radius R and height L_0 . The cylinder is open at ita bottom and has a small hole at its top. A piston of mass M is held at a distance L from the top surface, as shown in the figure. The atmospheric pressure is P_0 . The piston is now pulled out slowly and held at a distance 2L from the top. The pressure in the cylinder between its top and the piston will then be

A fixed thermally conducting cylinder has a radius R and height L_0 . The cylinder is open at ita bottom and has a small hole at its top. A piston of mass M is held at a distance L from the top surface, as shown in the figure. The atmospheric pressure is P_0 . While the piston is at a distance 2L from the top, the hole at the top is sealed. The piston is then released, to a position where it can stay in equilibrium. In this condition, the distance of the piston from the top is

A cylidrical vesel containing a liquid is closed by a smooth piston of mass m as shown in the figure. The area of cross section of the piston is A. If the atmospheric pressure is P_0 , find the pressure of the liquid just below the piston. ,

A piston of mass M=3kg and radius R=4cm has a hole into which a thin pipe of radius r=1 cm is inserted the piston can enter a cylinder tightly and without friction an initially it is at the bottom of the cylinder 750 gm of water is now poured into the pipe so that the piston&pipe and lifted up as shown find the height H of water in the cylinder and height h of water in the pipe.
