You measure two quantities as `A=1.0m+-0.2m`,`B=2.0m+-0.2m`. We should report correct value for `sqrt(AB)` as

A

1.4 m `pm` 0.4 m

B

1.41 m `pm` 0.15 m

C

1.4 m `pm` 0.3 m

D

1.4 m `pm` 0.2 m

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

Let x=`sqrt(AB)`
then `(Deltax)/x=1/2(DeltaA)/A+1/2(DeltaB)/B`
Here `x=sqrt2`
so `Deltax=sqrt2/2[0.2/1.0+0.2/2.0]=0.2`

A person measures two quantities as A = 1.0 m +- 0.2 m ,B = 2.0 m +- 0.2 m We should report correct value for sqrt(AB) as

Four point charges, +0.1 mu C,-0.1 mu C,-0.1 mu C and +0.1 mu C are kept at points A(0, 2 m), B(0, -2 m), C (- sqrt2 m, sqrt2 m) and D ( sqrt2 m, - sqrt2 m) respectively. Calculate the resultant dipole moment of the combination.

Find out electric field intensity at point A (0, 1m, 2m) due to a point charge -20 muC situated at point B (sqrt(2)m, 0, 1m) .

Show that if two sets of measured quantities have mean values m_(1) and m_(2) with respective standard errors alpha_(1) and alpha_(2) the standard error of m_(1)m_(2)"is" (m_(1)^(2)alpha_(2)^(2)+m_(2)^(2)alpha_(1)^(2))^(1//2) .

two point charges 2 muC and -4 muC are situated at points (-2m, 0m) and (2m, 0m) respectively. Find out potential at point C( 4m, 0m) and D (0 m, sqrt(5) m) .

The lines x+y-1=0,(m-1)x+(m^(2)-7)y-5=0 and (m-2)x+(2m-5)y=0 are concurrent for three values of m concurrent for one value of m concurrent for no value of m parallel for m=3.
