Will the position of the null point change if the galvanometer is replaced by another one of a different resistance in a wheatstone bridge?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The condition of blance i.e , `(P)/(Q)=(R)/(S)` does not depend on the resistance of the galvanometer . So , if a galvanometer of a different resistance is used ,the position of full point does not change . Of course the sensitivity of the bridge depends on the resistance of the galvanometer .

How will the position of null ponit of a Wheatstone bridge change if we interchange the battery and galvanometer in the circuit ?

A null point is obtained when two resistors , of resistance r each, are connected in series and placed in the fourth arm of a wheatstone bridge . Now , the resistance R of the third arm is kept fixed ,and r, connected in parallel, are placed in the fourth arm. then a null point is obtained only by interchanging the resistances P and Q , and also the value of r.
