Two electric bulbs each designed to operate with a power of 500 W in a 220 V line are connected in series in a 110 V line . What will be the power generated by each bulb ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Power , `P=(V^(2))/(R)`
So , resistance of each bulb,
`R=(V^(2))/(P)=(220)^(2)/(500)=(484)/(5)=Omega`
When connected in series , potentail differnce at the two ends of each bulb = `(110)/(2)=5V`
`therefore` power of each bulb `(55)^(2)/((484)/(5))=(55xx55xx5)/(484)=31.25W`
