Nichrome and copper wires of same length...

Nichrome and copper wires of same length and same radius are connected in series . Current I is passed through them . Which wire gets heated up more ? Justify you answers .

Text Solution

Heat dissipates in a wire , `H=I^(2)Rt`
We know that ,
`R=(rhol)/(A)`
`thereforeH=I^(2)(rhol)/(A)t`
If current I , length l and area A remain same , H depends on `rho`
`thereforeHproprhoandrho_("nichrome")gtrho_("copper")`
Hence , nichrome wire will heaat up more .
