What is an antenna? Find the length of a dipole antenna for a carrier wave of frequency `3xx 10^(8)`Hz.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Antenna is a device used in communication systems for sending electromagnetic waves in all directions from the transmitter and receiving them at the receiver.
Wavelength of carrier wave,
`lambda = ("velocity")/("frequency") = (3 xx 10^(8) m.s^(-1))/(3 xx 10^(8) s^(-1)) = 1`m
`therefore` Length of dipole antenna should be about 1 m.
