A atoms are at the corners of the cubic unit cell. Since an A atom at the cornor is shared equally by eight adjoining cubes, number of A atoms per unit cell `=8xx1/8=1`.
B atoms are at the centres of the faces of the cubic unit cell. As each B atom at the centre of the face is equally shared by two cubes, number of B atoms per unit cell = `=6xx1/2=3`.
Therefore, the ratio of A and B atoms in the unit cell = `1:3`. Hence, the simplest formula of the compound would be `AB_(3)`.
