The distance (d) between the nearest neighbours in a body-centred cubic unit cell in terms of edge length (a) of the cell and radius ( r) of its particle is, d = 2r = 0.866`xx`a.
As a = 4.29Å, 2r = 0.866`xx`a = 0.866`xx`4.29Å
or, r = 1.857Å
Therefore, the radius of a sodium atom is 1.857Å, and the distance between the nearest neighbours = 2r = 2`xx`1.857Å
= 3.714Å
