In a crystalline compound AB, B atoms form hexagonal close-packed structure. What is the total number of voids in 0.25 mol of the compound?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In a crystalline compound AB, B atoms form hcp structure. Thus total number of voids in 1 mol of the compound is 3N, where N is Avogadro's number.
Thus in 0.25 mol of the compoound, the total number of voids will be, `0.25xx3N=0.25xx3xx6.022xx10^(23)`
`=4.517xx10^(23)`
