How would you react to the statement that the electronegativity of N on pauling scale is 3.0 in all the nitrogen compounds?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Electronegativity of any element depends on the hybridistaion state and oxidation state of that element in a particular compound, i.e., electronegativity of an element varies from compound to compound. For example electronegativity of N. atom varies as: `sp^(3)-N lt sp^(2)-N lt sp-N`. so, the given statement is not correct.
