Compare the atomic radii of fluorine and neon.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Fluroine and neon are the members of second period having atomic numbers 9 and10 respectively. The covalent radius of fluorine (halogen) is expressed in terms of its covalent radius, while that of neon (noble gas) is expressed in terms of its van der waals radius. since by definition, van der waals radii are always greater than covalent radii, therefore, atomic radius of neon is greater than of fluorine.
