(i) When hydrogen combines with oxygen, a polar covalent produce is formed-explain.
(ii) What types of bonds are present in `KHF_(2)`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

(i) Hydrogen reacts withoxygen to form `H_(2)O` as a covalent compound. Due to angular structure the resultant of the two O-H bond moments and the moment contributed by the lone pair act in the same direction. Hence, `H_(2)O` molecule is polar in nature.
(ii) `K^(+)[F * * * H-F]^(-)` Ionic, covalent and hydrogen bond.
