Define electronegativity. How does it differ from electron gain enthalpy?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Electronegativity of an element is the tendency or ability of its atom to attract the shared pair of electron towards itself in a covalent bond. On the other hand, electron gain enthalpy is the energy released, when one mole of gaseous atoms of the element accept electrons to from gaseous uninegative ion.
