Give the structure of `(CH_(3))_(3)N and [(CH_(3))_(3)Si]_(3)N`. Are they isostructural ?

Text Solution

`(CH_(3))N` is trimethyl amine. It has a pyramidal structure. While `[(CH_(3))_(3)Si]_(3)N` ia planar.

thus, the two species are not isostructural. In `(CH_(3))_(3)N,N-`atoms is `sp^(3)` hybrisied while in `[(CH_(3))_(3)Si]_(3)` N, the N-atom is `sp^(2)` hybridised.
