Indicate the type of bonds present in NH...

Indicate the type of bonds present in `NH_(4)NO_(3)` and state the mode of hybridisation of two N-atoms.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

`NH_(4)NO` is an ionic compound in which `NH_(4)^(+)` ion is the cationic and `NO_(3)^(-)` is the anionic species. `NH_(4)^(+)` ion is formed by the combination of `NH_(3)` molecule and `H^(+)` ions through dative bond. N in `NH_(4)^(+)` ion is `sp^(3)` hybridised and has a tetrahedral geometry, while in `NO_(3)^(-)` ion, N is `sp^(2)` hybrised and has a planar geometry. thus three types of bonds, viz, ionic covalent and coordinate bonds are present in `NH_(4)NO_(3)`.
