An iron cylinder contains He gas at a pressure of 250 kPa at 300K. The cylinder can withstand a pressure of `1xx10^(6)Pa`. The room in which the cylinder is placed catches fire. Predict whether the cylinder will blow up before it melts or not. [M.P. of the cylinder=1800 K]

We know, `P_(1)//P_(2)=T_(1)//T_(2)`.
Given, `P_(1)=250kPa=25xx10^(4)Pa`,
`T_(1)=300K,P_(2)=10^(6)Pa and T_(2)=?`
`therefore T_(2)=(P_(1))/(P_(1))xxT_(1)=(10^(6))/(25xx10^(4))xx300=1200K`
As the final temperature is less than the melting point of iron, the cylinder would explode, instead of melting.
