When C acts as a reducing agent, it converts to CO or `CO_(2)(C+O_(2)rarrCO_(2),2C+O_(2)rarr2CO)`. Again when `CO(2CO+O_(2)rarr2CO_(2))` . In Ellingham diagram, below `(C,CO) or (C, CO_(2))` line. Thus `Delta_(f)G_(("CO,CO"_(2)))^(@)` is more negative than both `DeltaG_("(C,CO)")^(@) and Delta_(f)G_(("C,CO"_(2)))^(@)`. Thus at 673 K, CO is better reducing agent than C.
