Anhydrous `AlCl_(3)` cannot be obtained by heating `AlCl_(3).6H_(2)O-` why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

This is because when `AlCl_(3).6H_(2)O` is heated, it undergoes hydrolysis by the water involved in forming its crystal and finally `Al_(2)O_(3)` is obtained under heated condition.
`2[AlCl_(3).6H_(2)O]overset(Delta)rarr Al_(2)O_(3)+6HCl+9H_(2)O`
