Why is Zn and not Cu used for the recovery of silver from `[Ag(CN_(2))]^(-)`?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Zinc is a stronger reducing agent `(E^(@)=-0.76V)`and is more electropositive than `Cu(E^(@)=+0.34V)`. Therefore, zinc is used for the recovery of Ag from `[Ag(CN)_(2)]^(-)`.
