If galena (PbS) is contaminated with zinc blende (ZnS), how can these be separated by froth-floatation?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

PbS is separated from ZnS by adding a depressant like NaCN that forms a layer of zinc complex, `Na_(2)[Zn(CN)_(4)]` on the surface of ZnS and thus prevents it from forming the froth.
