2 DNA samples, X & Y have m.p 340 and 350 K respectively. Which sample has higher CG base pair & Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

CG base pairing occurs through 3 H-bonds while AT base pairing occurs through 2 H-bonds. Thus, CG base pairing is more stronger than AT base pairing. Hence, sample containing more CG base pair is more compact and have higher melting point. So, the sample Y has higher CG content
