An optically active amino acid (A) having molecular formula `C_(5)H_(11)NO_(2)` can exist in three forms depending upon the pH of the medium. Write the structure of (A) in aqueous medium. What are such ions called ? In which medium the cationic and the anionic forms of the amino acid (A) exist and towards which electrode they migrate in an electric field?

The optically active amino acid (A) is valine `Me_(2)CH - CH (NH_(2)) - COOH`. Depending upon the pH of medium, valine can exist in the following three forms (I-III):

In aqueous medium, valine exists as a zwitterion (II). In acidic medium, it will exist as (I) and in an electric field, it will migrate towards cathode. In basic medium, it will exist as (IIII) and in an electric field, it will migrate towards anode

Compound 'A' with molecular formula C_(4)H_(9)Br is treated with aq.KOH solution. The rate of this reaction depends upon the concentration of the compound 'A' only. When another optically active isomer 'B' of this compound was treated with aq. KOH solution, the rate of reaction was found to be dependent on concentration of compound and KOH both. (i) Write down the structural formula of both compounds 'A' and 'B'. (ii) Out of these two compounds, which one will be converted to the product with inverted configuration.

A hydrocarbon (X) has the molecular formula C_8H_10 . It does not decolourise bromine water and is oxidised to benzoic acid on heating with K_2Cr_2O_7/c.H_2SO_4 . It can also have three other isomers A, B and C. Write the structures of X, A, B and C.
