Aldopentoses named as ribose and 2-deoxyribose are found in nucleic acids. What is their relative configuration?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

In the Fischer projection formulae of ribose and 2-deoxyribose, `-OH` group is on the right side of the highest numbered asymmetric centre (i.e., `C-4`) and hence both the compounds have D-configuration.
