Explanation

1) In mouth , saliva is secreted by the action of autonomous nervous system to moisten the food to make chewing and swallowing easier.
2) As a result of chewing food forms into a slurry mass called 'bolus'.
3) The enzyme salivary amylase in the saliva breaks down the large starch molecule into smaller subunits usually into sugars.
4) During mastication food size becomes convenient to swallow.
