(i) Sunderial Bahuguna :
(1) From 1970s to 1980s he conducted a movement named 'Chipko' movement.
(2) He was againset the felling and cutting of trees.
(3) He conducted 5000 km long footmarch in the Himalayan region to oppose the cutting down of trees between 1981 and 1983.
(4) With his efforts the states governments of Uttar Pradesh imposed the ban on felling of trees for 15 years in 1980.
(ii) Medha Patkar:
(1) She was born in 1954 in Maharshtra.
(2) She was fond of enviroment and tried to educate people regarding it in Maharastra, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
(3) She started Narmada Bachao Andolan in 1989 against the construction of various dams on Narmada river which cause evacuation of tribals, people and loss to environment.
(4) She sought to hunger strike in 1989 and 1993 and 1994 against evacuation of the site.
(5) She got support form noted film actor Aamir Khan on this issue.
(6) Though the projects were constructed, she brought forward the environmental issues to the fore.
(iii) Wangari Maathai :
(1) Wangari Maathai was a Kenyan enviornmentalist born in 1940.
(2) She dedicted her life to environment from 1970 onwards.
(3) she started Greenbelt movement in 1970s in Kenya.
(4) she preached environment friendly loving and the Kenyan Government came down on her.
(5) She resorted to hunger strike in 1992 to suppot her cause.
(6) She was given the Noble Peace Prize in 2004.
(7) She breathed her last in 2011.
(iv) Ken Saro-Wiwa :
(1) He was a Nigerian environmentalist born in 1941.
(2) He was much concerned about the coastal environment of Nigeria which was damaged by uncontrol extraction of petroleum.
(3) His family filed law suits against the petroleum extraction company Royal Dutch Shell.
(4) From 1990 onwards he got huge support from all corners for his cause.
(5) But the government blatantly executed him in 1995.
