Explanation

A documentary film was shown in our school on Kudankulan Power Plant. It was in southern Tamil Nadu. The government started the work of this nuclear power plant in 2002. It is believed that this plant would supplement the power needs of Tamil Nadu, Pondichery and Karnataka. The work is going on smoothly till 2011.
During the years 2011 to 2013, there was stern opposition to the works, People feared of the nuclear plant disaster in Japan and hesitated the repetition of it in Kudankulam. A public Interest Litigation was filed in Supreme Court which favoured the plant. Thus in July 2013 it went critical. Now two units are functional and 2000 MW power is being generated. Nearly 1000 MW power wass allocated to Tamil Nadu and 300 MW power is surplus and non -allocated.
