Enthalpy decreases is not the criterion ...

Enthalpy decreases is not the criterion for spontaneity. Why?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

For the spontaneity of a reaction `DeltaG` must be negative. Though the enthalpy increases if `TDeltaS` is more negative then `DeltaG` becomes negative in the equation
`DeltaG=DeltaH-TDeltaS`
So decreases in enthalpy is not criterion for the spontaneity of the reaction.
