Explain the spontaneity of a process....

Explain the spontaneity of a process.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The process which takes place on its accord without the aid of an external agency is called spontaneous process.
Ex : (1) Heat flows from hot end to cold end (2) Water flows from higher level to lower level.
Spontaneous process is an irreversible process and may only be reversed by some external agency. In general for a spontaneous reaction `DeltaH` is +ve. But for a spontaneous reaction `DeltaG` must be -ve. All natural processes are spontaneous.
