What happen when dihydrogen reacts with
(b) Sodium metal ? Explain.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When sodium reacts with hydrogen sodium hydride is formed.
`2Na + H_(2) to 2NaH`
In this reaction sodium loses electron while hydrogen gains electron forming `Na^(+) and H^(-)` ions. Here sodium is oxidised while hydrogen is reduced.
