What is water - gas shift reaction? How can the production of didydrogen be in creased by this reaction?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Generally water gas produced by passing steam over red hot coke contain less percentage of `H_(2)`.
`C + H_(2)O to CO _ H_(2)`
The amount of `H_(2)` in wate gas can be increased by reacting Coof syngas with steam in the presence of iron chromate catalyst.
`CO(g) + H_(2)O(g) to CO_(2)+H_(2)`. This is called water gas shift reaction.
This `CO_(2)` formed is removed by scrubbing with sodium arsenite solution.
