Why does the solubility of alkaline earth metal carbonates and sulphates in water decrease down the group?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Down the group with increase in atomic size the lattice enthalpies and hydration enthalpies of carbonates and sulphate decrease but the decrease in hydration enthalpies is rapid than lattice enthalpies. So the solubilities of carbonates and sulphates decrease down the group.
