How would you expalain the following observation?
(i)`BeO` is almost insoluble but `BeSO

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

When small cation combines with small anion lattice energy is very high.So the lattice energy of BeO is more than its hydration energy .Hence BeO is insoluble.
When small beryllium ion combines with large anion the lattice energy decrease in hydration energy is less than hydration energy .Hence `BeSO_(4)` is soluble in water .
