Discuss on : (ii) Sulphates.

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Sulphates : Sulphates are white solids. Their solubility decreases down the group. Thermal stability decreases down the group. Thermal stability increases down the group. `BeSO_(4) and MgSO_(4)` are soluble. The greater hydration enthalpies of `Be^(2-)` and `Mg^(2-)` ions over come the lattice enthalpy factor and therefore their sulphates are soluble.
