If a white sheet of paper is stained with oil, the paper turns transparent. Why ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1) When a white sheet or paper is stained with oil it becomes transparent because oil raises the transmissivity of light. It makes the paper more amorphous.
2) Both oil and paper have a similar refractive index so when oil fills the air gaps between paper and air then light is more easily transmitted through the paper.
