What is scattering ? Explain how a light scatters.

Scattering: The process of re-emission of absorbed light in all directions with different intensities by atoms or molecules is called scattering of light.
Process of scattering :
1) Let us consider that the free atom or free molecule is some where in space.
2) Light of certain frequency falls on that atom or molecule.
3) This atom/molecule responds to the light whenever the size of the atom/molecule is comparable to the wavlength of light.
4) In this condition is satisified, the atom absorbs light and vibrates.
5) Due to this vibration, the atom re-emits a certain fraction of absorbed energy in all directions with different intensities.
6) The re-emitted light is called scattered light and the process of re-emission of light in all directions with different intensity is called scattering of light.
7)The atoms /molecules are called scattering centre.
