1 ) Physical and chemical properties of elements are related to their electronic configurations , particularly the outer shell confgurations .
2 ) The atoms of the elements in a group possesses similar electronic configurations . Therefore ,we expect all the elements in a group should have similar chemical proper - bottom .
3 ) similarly in period from left to right . elements get an increase in the atomic number by one unit between any two successive elements .
4 ) Therefore the electrons configuration of valence shell of any two elements in a given period is not same Due to this reason , elements along a period possess different chemical properites with regular gradation in their physical properties from left to right .
