What will happen if a uniform electric field is setup throughout the conductor ?

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

1. The free electrons in the conductor are accelerated by the electric field and move in a direction oppsite to the direction of the field.
2. When electrons are in motion under the unfluence of the field they collide with lattice ions, lose energy and may even come to a hall at every collision.
3. They are again accelerated by the electric field and make collisions with other lattice ions.
4. In this way they continue to move along the conductor.
