What is Rivet popper Hypothesis ? Who proposed it ?

Paul Ehrlich proposed the Rivet popper hypothesis. It states that an aeroplane has thousands of rivets as an ecosystem has different species. If few rivets are removed, it will not effects the flight initially but the aeroplane will become weak and destabilize at some point of time, as an ecosystem which will also destabilize if the component species are removed due to extinction.
