At a place , the horizontal and vertical...

At a place , the horizontal and vertical components of earth's magnetic field are 0.3 Oe and 0.2 Oe , respectively . Determine the resultant intensity and angle of dip there .

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

Here , H = 0.3 Oe , V = 0.2Oe .
If the resultant intensity is I then
`I=sqrt(H^(2)+V^(2))=sqrt((0.3)^(2)+(0.2)^(2))=sqrt(0.13)=0.3605 " Oe"`
If the angle of dip is `theta` then ,
`tantheta=(V)/(H)=(0.2)/(0.3)=0.6667`
`therefore" " theta=tan^(-1)(0.6667)=33.69^(@)`
