In an electromagnetic field , the amplitude of electric field at a point is 3 V. `m^(-1)` . Calculate energy density and intensity of the wave at that point. Given `mu_0=4pixx10^(-7) H.m^(-1)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The amplitude of electric field , `E_0=3 V. m^(-1)`
`B_0=E_0/c=3/(3xx10^8)=10^(-8)Wb.m^(-2)`
So, the energy density ,
`mu=1/(2mu_0)B_0^2 =1/(2xx4pixx10^(-7))xx(10^(-8))^2`
`=3.98xx10^(-11) J. m^(-3)`
Intensity , `I=cu=(3xx10^8)xx(3.98xx10^(-11))`
`=0.012 W. m^(-2)`
