An aircraft is descending to land at an airport in the morning. The aircraft is landing to the east, so that pilot has the sun in his eyes. The aircraft has a speed v and is descending at an angle `alpha` and the sun is at an angle `beta` above the horizon. Find the speed with which the aircraft's shadow moves over the groung.

A man is moving due east with a speed 1 km/hr and rain is falling vertically with a speed sqrt(3) km/hr. At what angle from vertical the man has to hold his umbrella to keep the rain away. Also find the speed of rain drops w.r.t. man.

A boy on a train of height h_1 projects a coin his friend of height h_2 standing on the same train, with a velocity v relative to the train, at an angle theta with horizontal. If the train moves with a constant velocity v' in the direction of x - motion of the coin, find the (a) distance between the boys so that the second boy can catch the coin, (b) maximum height attained by the coin, and ( c) speed with which the second boy catches the coin relative to himself (train) and ground.

Directions: In the question given below a statements is followed by three courses of action numbered I or (A), II or (B) and III or (C). A course of action is a step or administrative decision to be taken for improvement, follow-up for further action in regards to the problem, policy etc. on the basis of the information given in the statement. you have to assume everything in the statement to be true, then decide which of the three given/suggested courses of action logically follows for pursuing and decide the answer. Statements: It is reported that during the last fortnight there has been three cases of near-miss situation involving two aircrafts over the busy city airport. In all these cases, both the aircraft came perilously close to the other and could avoid collision as the pilots acted just in time. Courses of action: I. The pilots of all the six aircrafts involved in these incidents should be de-rostered immediately. II. Some flights should be diverted to other airports for the next few months to decongest the sky over the city airport. III. Air traffic controllers of the city airport should be sent for refresher courses in batches to prepare themselves to handle such a pressure situation. 1) Only I follows 2) Only II follows 3) Only III follows 4) Only II and III follow 5) None of these

Two balls A and B having different but unknown masses, collide elastically. A is initially at rest when B has a speed v. After collisio B has a speed v/2 and moves at right angles to its original motion. (a) find the direction in which ball A moves after collision (b) Determine the speed of A.
